As of 1:45pm on January 2, 2019 the Northwest Arctic Borough Public Safety Department has received reports of overflow on the edge of the ice in Kotzebue Sound and on Kobuk Lake. Due to the overflow on both Kotzebue Sound and Kobuk Lake along with poor visibility caused by high winds and snow, travel by snow machine is not advised at this time. If you must travel please file a trip plan with your local Search and Rescue president and take a SPOT emergency locator device with you.
Trail staking and trail maintenance is ongoing but has been delayed by the current conditions.
