After more than 6 (six) months of non-productive negotiations with Teck Resources Limited, the Northwest Arctic Borough Assembly and Mayor (under the borough’s taxing authority) imposed a Severance Tax on resources extracted from land within the Borough beginning January 1, 2016. TECK officials insist on dictating the terms of the new Agreement and have swiftly rejected settlement proposals put forth by the Borough. The NWAB Mayor and Assembly have ended negotiation discussions and will pursue all avenues to ensure future Agreements are fair and equitable.
