From our friends at the National Park Service on the 2021 caribou herd census results. The herd is down to 188,000 and the Western Arctic Caribou Herd Working Group at their meeting last week, agreed to move from conservative to preservative status. The management recommendations at this level include no harvest of calves, limited harvest of cows, limiting harvest to residents only and some closure of federal lands. These are recommendations and there has been no change in regulation yet.
