Public Safety
MISSION:
The Public Safety shall work to improve all aspects of public safety and law enforcement for the people of the Northwest Arctic Borough.
RESPONIBILITIES:
The Public Safety program within the Public Services Department shall work to improve all aspects of public safety and law enforcement for the people of the Northwest Arctic Borough by identifying public safety needs, identifying resources available, and establish and implement strategies and a comprehensive public safety plan to meet those needs.
STRATEGIC GOALS IN 2009:
In accordance with the Northwest Arctic Borough’s Strategic Plan, the Public Service Department is working on the following strategic goals in 2009:
- Obtain management of the State of Alaska’s Village Public Safety Officer contract.
- Work with Maniilaq Association and each village’s City and or Tribal government to improve law enforcement facilities in the region.
- An effective Village Public Safety Officer program will improve public safety emergency responses, i.e. fire, search & rescue, emergency medical, natural disasters, and law enforcement situations.
- Work with and plan for expanded law enforcement service delivery with Federal and State agencies.
