Parent-Teacher Conferences Parent Teacher Conference at KMHS were held the week of October 20th for Kotzebue Middle and High School. Only about 35 parents for 540 students participated. As we move towards academic achievement with our kids, parents need to be actively involved with the success of our kids. In the early education years, students and parents are very enthusiastic about school. As the years go by, students become more independent as they develop physically, socially, emotionally and educationally. Despite the independence of the child, it is still crucial that parents be involved with the success of our youth at school. Vance Cortez-Rucker, Principal of KMHS says it is even more important than ever to be involved with your child's education as we move away from the 'A, B, C' system of grading. Parents need to know the standards and benchmarks for the High School Exit Exams so students can successfully receive a high school diploma. Cortez-Rucker encourages people to come over and share a cup of coffee at KMHS and share ideas and learn more about the Guided Learning Process. Parent-Teacher conferences are held twice a year with the next one scheduled for March 2004. Events will be planned to coincide with the parent-teacher conferences to increase the numbers of parents who participate. Students are sent home with notifications of the conferences as well as notices on KOTZ radio, the Principal's Newsletter and the TV scanner. Let's help our kids to succeed by being an active parent in school functions! |
