Northern Lights Dancers Represent at
AFN The Northern Lights Dancers did an exceptional job representing Kotzebue at AFN. The group continues to promote our Inupiaq culture through song and dance and are infectious with their spirit. Throughout the years, the dancers evolve and change. At present, the Elders of the group are middle-aged and younger. The heartbeat of the drum intensifies when you hear the young people sing the songs with the drummers. It is a powerful sight when you see the dancers sing as they drum and dance. Talk about Inupiaq Pride! What a great way for our youth to be involved in learning and sharing an important part of who we are as Inupiaq. Did you ever hear youth walk down 3rd Street singing at the top of their lungs the Eskimo Dance songs after a museum performance? It's these instances where the Dancers shine and instill pride to themselves and to others watching the performances. Quyannaq Northern Lights Eskimo Dancers for doing your part in keeping our traditions alive! The boys looked great in their white shirts and ties blending the two worlds with one spirit. What a powerful gesture! The Elders who have gone before us would be proud of you today. |
