Borough Welcomes New Employee The Northwest Arctic Borough would like to welcome our newest employee, Andrea Taagiuluk Greene who is the Public Services Coordinator. "I enjoy a new challenge, especially in regards to employment. The position I have here at the NAB keeps me busy throughout the day. I hope it remains that way throughout my stay. It also allows me the opportunity to travel to the villages and meet, or reacquaint myself, with individuals who already know who I am because of my last name. I am surrounded by colleagues with a strong sense of work ethic. It is wonderful to be home!" As Public Services Coordinator, Andrea will organize the activities of the Local Emergency Planning Committee and Public Safety Commission as well as update the Borough's hazards analyses, capability assessment and emergency operations plan. Among many other things, she will develop and maintain a database of facilities with hazardous substances. Andrea continues to work part-time as a Project Officer with the Alaska Chukotka Development Program at the University of Alaska - Anchorage. Past employers include: The Native Village of Kotzebue - Kotzebue IRA, TeckCominco and Baker Aviation. Andrea is a 1994 graduate of the Mt. Edgecumbe High School and a 1999 graduate of the University of Montana at Missoula with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Russian. She also attended the Institute of Youth in Moscow, Russia through the University of Arizona at Tucson. Tom Bolen, Director of Public Services noted " It is a great thing when young people from our region go to college, graduate and then eventually find their way back to our community to become a part of the workforce. The Borough is fortunate to have Andrea working as Public Services Coordinator. She is very competent, energetic, cheerful and brings some important experience to the job by virtue of her past work at Red Dog on the environmental staff as well as the Red Dog Fire Department/Emergency Services. She is looking forward to getting to know more people from the villages through her work here." |
