| One of ten children in her family, this richly talented Kotzebue artist learned carving from her husband, Dan Williams. Using the beautifully grained bark of the cottonwood, she uses only a knife to capture the spirit of her Native people in portraits. Her masks are highlighted by fox, wolf or wolverine ruffs and hair from gray or black wolves or even from her own children! The eyes are normally fashioned from baleen or sport sunshades carved by her companion, Dan Williams.. |
